Let Titan Solve Your Production Challenges
Bring your part geometry, material, tolerance, and throughput requirements to Titan EDM’s application engineering team.
A turnkey Titan 30 system engineered to produce repeatable, compound-angle film-cooling holes across complex gas-path geometry.
Gas-turbine shroud segments protect the surrounding casing from extreme gas-path temperatures. Their cooling strategy relies on intricate micro-hole arrays across the main surface, forward and aft rails, and mating end faces.
This application required 38 individual passages across six zones. The holes had to enter curved surfaces at severe compound angles while meeting tight dimensional and angular requirements – without creating the burrs, tool deflection, or residual stresses associated with mechanical drilling.
The drilling process had to protect both immediate part quality and downstream performance.
Cooling holes enter curved gas-path and rail surfaces at severe inclined vectors.
Hole location, angle, and repeatability had to be maintained across all six zones.
Parts later face vacuum heat-treatment cycles up to 1,950°F, magnifying any defect.
Titan engineered the motion, workholding, and programming as one coordinated system to make complex hole patterns repeatable in production.
A Titan 30 with integrated filtration, automatic electrode changing, and a programmable CNC controller was paired with an MMK Matsumoto SAT100 rotary table.
A custom assembly fixture built from 420 stainless steel locates the shroud on precision-ground datums and secures it across critical reference faces.
Automated probing measures reference surfaces, calculates alignment variation, and updates the work coordinate system before the machine swaps to the electrode.
The Titan 30 provides the controlled motion, programmable power, and integration flexibility required for demanding production applications. Here, Titan extended the platform with multi-axis positioning, specialized fixturing, and automated probing around the shroud geometry.
Non-contact spark erosion removed the mechanical forces behind drill walk, burr formation, and tool defection. The integrated process provided a consistent path from setup through multi-angle hole execution.
Stable entry on curved surfaces without mechanical skidding or cutting pressure.
Probing detects alignment variation and updates coordinates before drilling.
Preventive maintenance, calibration, field service, and rapid-response support.
